The Wood Acres School welcomes children of any race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin.
The Wood Acres School offers a challenging, academic environment that encourages students to gain mastery in core academic areas as well as develop an understanding of the world through the humanities. The school seeks a wide range of students who demonstrate the ability to succeed in an academically accelerated program, and charges the Admissions Committee, which includes administrative and faculty representation, to make decisions in the best interests of each applicant and the school based upon criteria including:
- Student achievement
- Academic readiness and potential
- Developmental maturity
- Gender balance
- Diversity
- Appropriateness of match between the family and the school
- Affiliation with the school—special consideration for available placements is given to qualified students who are siblings of current students or children of legacy families
When To Apply
Applications are accepted beginning in November for the next school year. Candidates applying for the next school year by February will receive notification of admissions status in early April. For applications received after February, candidates will receive notification of admission status upon completion of the admissions process appropriate for the program or grade level. Placement decisions are based on availability as well as the student’s potential to succeed in our challenging learning environment.
Admissions decisions are based on a combination of factors, which may include a personal interview with the student, academic record, admissions tests, recommendations from teachers, a classroom visit and other appropriate information. Academic readiness or achievement, social and behavioral maturity, motivation and special talents may also be considered. Composition of a given grade and the school as a whole influence the decision of individual student selection.
Admissions Decisions
The Admissions Committee strives to build a school that is well balanced with a wide range of students. Since admission to the school is competitive, there are usually more qualified candidates than available placements and the Admissions Committee strives to identify students whose abilities fall within a range that is likely to predict success in our accelerated academic environment. The Admissions Committee will render one of the decisions below for each applicant. Notification of admission status will be mailed in early April for all applicants who have applied by February. Applications received after February will be notified of admission status upon completion of the admissions process appropriate for the program or grade level. The school retains the right to determine, at its sole discretion, whether or not to select a candidate for admission or to re-enroll a student.
