An affordable private school in this economy? It exists!

While The Wood Acres School has rightly touted itself as a private independent school with an outstanding accelerated curriculum, consistently high academic achievement, and an educational atmosphere where children truly soar, we have never really promoted the obvious… we are affordable! In fact, in the realm of private education in metropolitan Atlanta, Wood Acres is a downright bargain!

Yet there is nothing generic about our affordability! We use national standards against which we gauge our curriculum, our school is accredited with distinction, our staff is extraordinarily talented and dedicated, our annual budget is committed to student success and achievement, and our campus is just beautiful. We offer a full array of programs and activities outside the realm of the basics while never losing sight that The Wood Acres School is first and foremost a school where education is valued each and every day. Our student seats are filled with the children of college professors, business executives, entrepreneurs, educators, and dual working families that know how important a Wood Acres education can be for their children.

How is Wood Acres helping families afford a superior private school education? While other schools are raising tuition to combat rising costs and shrinking enrollment, we froze our tuition rates! Tuition for the 2010-2011 school year is the same as the the 2009-2010 school year.

Summer just got a whole lot better!

Safety First... And Last... And in the Middle, Too!

Some things never change. School always is about ABC’s and 123’s. The ABC’s and 123’s also fit for safety on campus. While we have perennially worried about entering and exiting our campus from Johnson Ferry Road, a more pressing concern is individual parents and carpool providers’ lack of courtesy and respect for other drivers. While 95% of our families are wonderful in these areas, daily examples can be seen in the few who believe they are above safety compliance.

Always be cautious. Always be careful.
Always be considerate. Always be calm & patient.

The mandate for all Wood Acres families and anyone who transports your child is a commitment to these ABCs and 123s of carpool campus safety:

1. Cell phone usage is not permitted while driving on campus.
2. Use the designated carpool areas and always walk your children to their classrooms if carpool line is not used.
3. Do not drive into oncoming lanes or pass inappropriately 

It really is that simple! Treat others with the consideration you wish to model for your children. Children watch and learn much more than they listen. Thank you for taking every opportunity to make the Wood Acres School campus safe for teaching and learning.

Wood Acres Scholarship 2010-2011

The beautiful bronze sculptures that welcome visitors and families to the school office on the Wood Acres campus were donated to the school in 2002 through the generosity of Wood Acres families in celebration of the lives of Brian and Isabelle.The Wood Acres Scholarship was established in memory and celebration of Isabelle and Brian Young, Jr. Applications for the annual scholarships are available in the school office. The deadline to submit applications will be at 4:00pm on Friday, May 14. Recipients will be announced by July 15th. 

Available only to current Wood Acres legacy families, this is a wonderful opportunity for families with rising Kindergarten through Eighth Grade students. Scholarship applications are reviewed by a panel of evaluators external to Wood Acres and awards are based on a combination of merit and need. This anonymously funded scholarship program will be celebrating its seventh year of assisting Wood Acres families to continue their child’s independent school education.

Wood Acres Goes Digital!

Wood Acres will be launching an awareness campaign this month on the digital billboard located at the intersection of Lower Roswell and Johnson Ferry Roads. The campaign will highlight the affordability of The Wood Acres School as well as our unique, accelerated curriculum.

Our best marketing resource has always been our wonderful parents and families. Your recommendations to friends and neighbors are invaluable, providing insight into our wonderful school for parents with similar educational goals for their children. With our awareness campaign, we hope friends and neighbors will be asking you even more often about the great school your child attends!

Wood Acres Students Raise $4,627 for Charity

Even with tough economic times, Wood Acres families gave and gave BIG during our February philanthropic drives, Jump Rope for Heart and the Junior Beta Club’s Hats for Haiti event.

The Wood Acres School will be donating $3,925 to the American Heart Association as a result of some serious jump ropers on campus and some seriously generous donations promoting healthy hearts in America.

And if that wasn’t generous enough,  Hats for Haiti netted $702 to send to the American Red Cross Haiti Rescue project. Thank you for helping your children and our students grow into caring, compassionate, and fun young men and women! Way to go Wood Acres!!!
